The vineyards for Palacio Quemado extend over 100Ha. surrounding the bodega. La Raya is sourced from a single parcel within the estate selected for its advanced age, orientation, and unique soils.

Viticulture

Farmed completely manually and organically, with only minor usage of copper sulfate. Guyot training.

Climate

Continental with influences from the Atlantic Ocean

Winemaking

Destemmed bunches ferment in 50% concrete vat and 50% open top neutral foudres. The Garnacha is exclusively fermented and macerated in concrete vat. The varieties ferment and age separately.

Aging

Once the wine is blended, ageing lasts 18 months in the fermentation vessel (50% concrete vat, 50% neutral foudre). The wine is bottled without fining or filtration, and is aged for 12 months in the bottle before release.

Comments

La Raya is the Alvear family's Grand Cru expression of Extremadura Alentejana, where their work has been critical in resuscitating the cultivation and vinification of traditional Portuguese varieties in the southwest of the Iberian peninsula.
