Viticulture
Traditional dry farmed viticulture. Bodegas Avancia practices organic and does not use any chemically synthesized fungicides, pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers.
Soils
Schist and black slate intermixed with decomposed quartz and red clay.
Climate
Mediterranean climate with an Atlantic influence. Very cold winters and very warm hot summers.
Winemaking
Hand-harvested and stored in 10kg crates for transportation to the winery. Bunches are sorted by the winery and chilled for 24 hours in a cold chamber to prevent oxidation and minimize SO2 required at the press. Bunches are partially destemmed (but not crushed) and partially maintained whole for the press, which is carried out in a horizontal pneumatic press. The must undergoes a static settling in stainless steel before being racked to puncheon and demi-muid (500L & 600L), 33.33% new, and inoculated with a pied de cuve started with neutral yeast. Fermentation is carried out at low temperaturas and MLF is blocked.
Aging
Ageing on the gross lees with battonage (in both tank and barrel) for 10 months.
Comments
Avancia Nobleza Godello is the result of a barrel selection of wine sourced from the Finca Aeiroá, planted in 1939 above O Barco de Valdeorras on slate and schist soils. This spectacular site is a field blend primarily of Godello intermixed with Mencía and other red grape varieties. The northern orientation of this site and slate soils produces wines of remarkable freshness and minerality.
